Ironstone Petite Sirah 2017
Succulent and rich, Ironstone’s Petite Sirah 2017 has a rich, deep, dark purple inky color that leads the way to bold aromas of warm berry pie and loads of blueberries, mixed with vanilla and a light pepper spice. Its full flavor of lush berries is combined with dark chocolate, warm cedar and vanilla. It gives way to a delightfully smooth finish, with moderate tannins.
The grapes for this Petite Sirah come from the Kautz family’s Teichert Ranch vineyard in the Sloughouse sub-appellation of the Lodi AVA. These well-drained soils contain large stones throughout – and are ideal for growing world-class grapes. The winery practices sustainable viticulture practices such as crop reduction, leaf removal, organic materials and drip irrigation to improve the quality of the grapes and intensity of flavors. Cover crops, which attract beneficial insects, are also employed, as well as the placement of owl and wood duck boxes around the vineyards and ponds to help preserve the surrounding habitats. After traditional fermentation, the wine is aged two months in new French oak.
Ironstone’s Petite Sirah is the perfect wine to serve with dishes like veal saltimbocca or braised beef with winter vegetables. Mushroom dishes are also ideal for Petite Sirah.
